STUNNED Bruneians witnessed a rare sight yesterday — His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who is always in complete command of himself, was overwhelmed by emotion when he talked about the 12 brave sons and daughters of Brunei Darussalam who had laid down their lives in the service of the nation.
His Majesty's firm and steady voice wavered as he could not hold back tears. Unable to control his grief, His Majesty paused for a moment and took a deep breath before continuing with the titah.
His Majesty's emotional moment touched such a cord that there was barely a dry eye in the audience.
Although His Majesty's titah only briefly referred to the helicopter crash that killed 12 Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) soldiers last July, the profound effect on those present at the Officer Cadet School (OCS) was evident.
